Jonathan J. Miller, CRP
Jonathan is a co-founder and President/CEO of Miller Samuel Inc. He is a certified general real estate appraiser in the state of New York and has been appraising residential and commercial properties for more than 23 years. Miller Samuel provides property valuations of more than $5,000,000,000 per year covering Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Staten Island, Long Island, The Hamptons/North Fork, Westchester County, Fairfield County and Northen New Jersey. He is a co-founder and managing principal of Miller Cicero, LLC, which provides commercial real estate valuation services in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx.
Jonathan has performed extensive assignments concerning mortgage origination, relocation, divorce, foreclosure, bankruptcy, asset valuation, share allocation, common area valuation, trust and estate matters and has been admitted as an expert witness in numerous city, state and federal courts.
Jonathan has been a frequent featured speaker at both local and national appraiser and real estate related conferences, industry panels and trade groups. He has served on advisory panels for the Employee Relocation Council concerning co-op, appraisal and technology issues, for Fannie Mae on co-op matters, is a member of the Mayor's Economic Advisory Panel for the New York City Office of Management and Budget and is a member of the New York City Council Finance Committee Economic Advisory Board.
He has participated in, or his statistics has been used within, research projects with a number of government agencies, consulting groups, and academic institutions, including New York University, Princeton University, Harvard University, Columbia University and Baruch College. His firm provides Manhattan market statistical content to New York Times on the web, the on-line entity of the New York Times Company. Jonathan has authored articles on valuation issues, techniques and market trends.
In 2005, Jonathan built and launched two widely read real estate blogs: Matrix: Interpreting the Real Estate Economy and Soapbox: Appraisal Ethics, Ideas and Industry Issues. He was recognized by Inman News as one of the top 25 most influential real estate bloggers in the country and his blog Matrix was voted one of the top five real estate blogs.
Since 1994, Jonathan has authored a series of reports considered the "report of record" covering the New York region for Prudential Douglas Elliman including Manhattan, Queens, Long Island, Brooklyn, The Hamptons and the North Fork that are relied on by the media, financial institutions as well as government agencies including the Federal Reserve, IRS, HUD and NYC Office of Management and Budget. The reports have an annual distribution of more than 300,000 copies annually.
Jonathan is a well-regarded real estate prognosticator speaking on US housing issues, appearing regularly on CNBC, NBC, CNN, ABC, Fox, Bloomberg and others.
