Apartments on Fire
by Sara Polsky
How much does a fireplace add to the value of an apartment? Units with fireplaces are generally about 10 percent pricier than apartments sans fireplaces, but that’s not an exact measurement, says appraiser/Curbed graph guru Jonathan Miller, because fireplaces often come with a bundle of other desirable prewar features. A fireplace alone probably increases an apartment’s price by two to five percent, depending on where the flame receptacle is within the apartment and, of course, whether it actually works.
